While a lot of businesses have been struggling since the pandemic, we are blessed to say we are busier than ever. Before COVID, we had multiple essential projects underway. Our Superintendents already have Ipads with hotspots for documenting job sites, so it was an easy transition. We held weekly meetings to discuss projects and to stay connected. The only thing that posed a challenge was pulling permits since all government offices were closed. Once the order lifted we resumed work at the job sites with new safety measures.

Here are 3 things we have learned from this.

1. Be nimble. No one could have planned for this, but we can control how we conduct business going forward. We had to adapt and find other ways to stay involved, like having our employees take online classes for recertification.
2. Communication is key. We are general contractors, we balance multiple teams of people for each job; communication is vital to what we do. When we went remote, our communication skills were put to the test.
3. Invest in tech. Most people would not think that tech is so important in our field, but the cloud is an essential piece of business infrastructure regardless of industry.

2020 has certainly been interesting, but it hasn’t been a dud. We have adapted and overcome!
