Children's Healing Center Recognized by AIA Huron Valley and CAM Magazine

Exciting things are happening at The McFate Group!

Last spring, The McFate Group completed two exciting projects: the Children’s Healing Center in Ypsilanti and the restoration of the Commiskey building façade in Howell.

The Children’s Healing Center is a non-profit dedicated to children with weak immune systems. With features like an Exploratory Play space, an Active Fitness room, and an Art room, the Children’s Healing Center is an innovative approach to encouraging education and play in a safe and clean environment. Our work on the Commiskey building was a unique restoration of a Victorian-era façade, involving removal of non-period items with a focus on historic preservation.

In September, The McFate Group won two awards at the AIA Huron Valley Awards dinner. The Children’s Healing Center won a Merit Award in the Aspirational Project category and the Commiskey building won an Honor Award in the Historic Preservation category. This November, the Children’s Healing Center is featured in CAM Magazine’s Safety Issue. The article is titled Constructing Care: The McFate Group Fosters Healing and Creativity at the Children’s Healing Center.

“Opened in July 2024, following a 10-month construction timeline, the state-of-the-art facility serves as a home away from home, in essence a refuge for kids and young adults with weakened immune systems,” writes Mike Scott, CAM Magazine contributor. “The vision for the complex’s construction focused on providing a clean and bright environment filled with fun and friendship,” Scott continues. “Program participants and their family members can take part in the Center’s diverse programs designed to unleash creativity, get the body moving, and enrich the mind.”

Here at The McFate Group, we’re honored to be part of such special endeavors, and we’re thrilled that the Children’s Healing Center has gotten such broad recognition this year. We hope to continue helping our community grow in years to come.
